Individual Options

With Individual Options, individual students work independently or with an adult to pursue a specific topic of interest.

For each school, the options for Individual Options are listed below.

Council Rock Primary School.

  • Extended Studies teacher may work with an individual child to explore special areas of interest or talent based on demonstrated need.
Entrance Criteria: Observed interest and commitment to task. Recommended by Extended Studies Services teacher, classroom teacher, or other faculty/staff member

Exit Criteria: Support is in place for as long as necessary. Study ends after completion of task, or student expresses a desire to stop.

French Road Elementary School

  • Independent Projects are intended to provide students with a learning extension based on their own individual interests.  Independent projects can be assigned at any time throughout the school year and are facilitated by the extended studies teacher.  These self-directed learning activities are appropriate for students with sufficient initiative and persistence to complete a project of their own choosing. They encourage creativity and original thinking among students seeking a challenge allowing them to explore ways of connecting unrelated issues in creative ways.  Most work is completed outside the school setting.

Entrance Criteria: Collaborative recommendation between classroom teacher and Extended Studies teacher

Exit Criteria: Support is in place for as long as necessary. Study ends after completion of task, or student expresses a desire to stop.

Entrance Criteria: Student makes application based on needs and interests

Exit Criteria: Completion of task or student desire to stop
