Dual Custody Transportation

According to the Commissioner of Education, school districts are not required to transport students to multiple locations.  It is up to the discretion of each district—based on available resources and safety concerns—if transportation to multiple locations will be granted. 

 

Brighton Transportation CAN accommodate requests for alternate locations on different days under the following conditions

  • All stop locations are within the Brighton Central School District’s service area.
  • The transportation arrangements are consistent and not subject to change week to week.
  • Any changes will require a new form to be filled out and 3 to 5 school days for the new arrangements to be put in place.
  • Transportation arrangements are not finalized until communicated in writing (email) by the Transportation Department

Starting in the fall of the 2024-2025 school year, the Transportation Department can no longer accommodate requests to transport students to alternate locations within a given day’s morning or afternoon windows. 

 

We CANNOT accommodate requests for alternate locations within a given day’s

morning or afternoon windows or schedules that alternate from week to week.

For example, the following request WOULD NOT be accommodated.

Parents (divorced or separated) may request that their children have multiple pick-up and drop-off locations using the Dual Custody Form. Transportation may accommodate requests to different “home” locations on different days based on a consistent schedule provided by the family.  Alternating weeks or other schedule variations are not possible based on safety concerns and will not be accepted.
